NEAR MINT Maori New Zealand Hand Carved Wahaika Club Paua Inlays Kotiate Vintage
Vintage Mori Carved Wooden Wahaika. This battle club, made likely in the late 19. Century, features hypnotic, meticulously carved designs and two Pua snail inlays.
The nacreous inlays are particularly brilliant and luminous, and the wood has a chocolate, dark brown, even finish. The club is made from a single piece of carved wood. This exceptional example is in NEAR MINT condition! It has no major flaws, damages, or repairs, and shows only the most minor surface wear.
Under close inspection, there is some exceedingly light surface wear to the butt and handle of the club and one tiny area at the end of the first lobe that either might be a nick or part of the carved design.
