Contingent and was embarked in the S. 14 Company, he served in Rhodesia, in addition to other operations and was invalided home in February 1901. He was subsequently appointed to the acting rank of Lieutenant in the Temuka Rifle Volunteers in 1905, but the appointment appears to have been a short-lived one.
