Presenting a magnificent deeply hand carved vintage wooden box featuring an exceptionally well carved and finely detailed Maori Tiki design. This exceptionally fine example features superb deep carving and displays beautiful signs of age.
This piece is an absolute delight to hold and view. This sensational piece features a beautiful deep relief carved Maori Tiki face to the top of the hinged lid. The Tiki is exceptionally well carved with exquisite fine detail and completed with inlaid paua shell eyes.
The Tiki is beautifully framed within a traditional zig-zag border and each side of the box is decorated with a traditional deeply carved Maori design. This beautifully crafted vintage piece has been expertly finished with a concealed hinge, which really adds to the quality and craftsmanship of this exceptionally fine piece. The depth of carving to the lid is magnificent and while somewhat more naive than the later pieces we have seen, measures a lovely 20mms in thickness. This fabulous Tiki box is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
The timber remains nourished with beautiful age related wear to the varnish which has developed a lovely mellow patina that only time can bring. The inlaid paua shell eyes are perfectly intact with no losses. This exquisite vintage piece has been well cared for and presents spectacularly. This impressive Tiki box measures approx 125mms in length, 100mms in width and stands 60mms tall.
