The History of this genuine antique New Zealand Victorian Colonial era home service pattern helmet plate badge has been copied from the 2011 edition of Geoff Oldham's price guide and reference book "Badges and Insignia of the New Zealand Army". This badge is Oldham reference # 2/2. This antique badge was used ONLY between 1895 - 1902. The "Four Stars" seen on this helmet plate badge are the "Southern Cross" constellation, (Visible only from the Southern hemisphere), and adopted as our National ensign on the New Zealand Flag adopted on 24th March 1902.
