Second World War era "General Service Cap" worn by a member of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Bears the "Onward" motto badge of the 2ndNZEF with a Black Diamond backing worn by most NZ active service soldiers in The Midlle East and in Europe and Italy, then onto Occupied Japan with "J-Force". The GSC hat diffres from a beret in several respects. A beret is made from one section of woolen fabric, whereas the GSC is sewn together from many sections. A Beret is WORN as an EARNED-RIGHT with unit-specific colours.

The General Service Cap is worn by all ranks of soldier under Colonel who do not have the right to wear a unit beret. We will happily COMBINE these.......
