ONE OF KIND ULTRA RARE NEW ZEALAND GEMSTONE GOODLETITE RUBY ROCK MAORI PENDANT. ONE OF KIND ULTRA RARE AUTHENTIC NEW ZEALAND GEMMY GOODLETITE RUBY ROCK MAORI PENDANT, BEAUTIFULLY CARVED BY JOHN KERWIN. &###xA0; GOODLETITE is a local name for this rare, greenish-grey ruby rock &###x2013; a form of the mineral corundum. This is found only near Hokitika on the West Coast.

Despite more than 100 years of searching, goodletite has been found only as boulders and never in the place where it was formed. THIS INCREDIBLY RARE STONE IS NEW ZEALAND'S ONLY GEM STONE AND IS ONLY FOUND IN A SMALL AREA OF NEW ZEALAND. Goodletite; a greenish-grey rock consisting of ruby, sapphire and tourmaline crystals in fuchsite.

Also known as ruby rock. Goodletite is a form of corundum and is unique to New Zealand, commonly found near Hokitika.

The mineral was named after William Goodlet, who was one of Professor James Gow Black's assistants. THIS BEAUTIFUL GEMSTONE PENDANT WAS CARVED AND POLISHED BY JOHN KERWIN - IT MEASURES 2.5" by 1.4" with a domed smooth depth. Pounamu is found only in the South Island of New Zealand. Because of this, the island was originally named Te W&###x101;hi Pounamu (the place of pounamu), but over time this name changed to Te Wai Pounamu (the greenstone waters). No other jade should be classified as pounamu as it is a Maori name for the stone.

There are ten main types of pounamu. &###x2022;Arahura - a dark velvet green. &###x2022;Inanga - pale blue or green - can be opaque or translucent. &###x2022;Totoweka - a rare type - streaked or spotted with red. &###x2022;Kahotea - dark green with darker inclusions. &###x2022;Kawakawa - rich leaf green sometimes with dark freckling. &###x2022;Kohuwai - a misty grey blue with vivid bright green - like moss in a stream. &###x2022;Kokopu - sometimes called troutstone - silver or golden green with brown freckling. &###x2022;Kahurangi - emerald clear green sometimes with white feathering - highly prized. &###x2022;Raukaraka - called Flower Jade - varied greens with gold/orange blooms. &###x2022;Tangiwai - bowenite - found only in certain areas of Aotearoa NZ - dark blue/green - exceptional translucence. The carvings I offer are priced incredibly reasonably for genuine artist carved&###xA0;NZ POUNAMU which will soon become impossible to obtain.

All my pendants are blessed in the Maori tradition. All my photos are taken outside in natural light - no digital enhancement - no photoshopping - what you see is what you get! The main deposits used by M&###x101;ori are in the districts around the Taramakau and Arahura rivers in Westland, coastal south Westland and the Lake Wakatipu area in Otago. In addition, there is a significant field of bowenite in Milford Sound (Piopiotahi). Traditionally, the pounamu in the Arahura River has been most important for Poutini Ng&###x101;i Tahu (Ng&###x101;i Tahu people on the West Coast), with the junction of this river and Waitaiki (Olderog) Stream being particularly important.
