RARE 1944 Dated RNZAF Pilot's Wings METAL New Zealand Air Force TROPICAL Pattern
VERY VERY SCARCE 2nd World War (1944 Dated) Royal New Zealand Air Force Tropical Issue flight suit flight qualification brevet Used ONLY by the R. And ONLY in Tropical Theaters (The Pacific) "SIGNED & DATED" MAKER marked = M. 44 for Mayer and Keane Wellington (New Zealand) 1944 VERY FEW of these RNZAF pilot wings were ever made (Likely LESS than 2-300 pair of METAL Tropical pilot's wings). SO SCARCE that these metal brevey are NOT SEEN!!

In Warren Carroll's awesome flight brevet collector's reference "Eagles Recalled" (Published a year or two BEFORE the WWW came along to assist in the sharing of collector information)?? I have copied some very recently published RNZAF reference material From Barry O'Sullivan's massive reference tome on the R. That author HAD NEVER before SEEN any of these (UNIQUE in my own experience) BRONZE finish pilot's wings. (Usually these pilot wings are stamped from Brass, then finished being coated in Nickel).

But this example shows NO TRACE (not the slightest vestige) of ever having been plated. MAYBE they were left in the Brass finish?

But they certainly appear to me anyway to have been BRONZE Finished. In the manner typical of New Zealand Army and Air Force OFFICER'S insignia. Mayer and Keane also made 1/2 wing brevet for navigator, bomb aimer, engineer etc.

I have shown two Nickel finish 1/2 wing brevet in my listing's images, these are NOT INCLUDED & are shown for comparison purposes ONLY. The brevet offered here is seen in image # 1 through to image # 8. These 1/2 wing brevet are even scarcer than these "full wings" That BECAUSE the vast majority of the aircraft flown by the TINY RNZAF in The Pacific during WW2 were single-seater FIGHTERS Toward the END of their brief production-run of METAL flight brevet insignia, Mayer & Keane's STAMPING DIE became worn-out and the "signature details" SEEN HERE (clearly) are often NOT PRESENT or legible on many of those wings produced toward the end of their brief manufacturing run (ONLY made back in 1944). These King's crown brevet likely were continued in wear in SINGAPORE until 1953 (When King George the 6th passed-away). GUARANTEED 100% GENUINE "For Life" (like all items that I sell).

We will happily COMBINE these....... That because WE MUST PAY G. An invoice (GST RECEIPT) will be issued IF REQUESTED?
