Rare, fine 9cm Pliocene Spider Crab Trichopeltarion greggi pos/neg New Zealand
Offered is ararely seen item for the specialist collector; a well preserved 9cm, high relief and complete carapace, with limb bases, of the Pliocene Spider Crab Trichopltarion greggi from Motunau Beach, North Canterbury, New Zealand. The specimen is within a split concretion, and each half is approx 8cm X 8cm X 2.5cm (weight 0.4kg). The upper carapace with at least six limb-bases are preserved in this positive/negative pair; the truncated limbs are visible on the outside of the concretion containing the internal mould, and these limb bases will prepare further with modern air tools. Fine surface sculpture of coarse pustules is preserved in both moulds, and the shell is replaced with attractive orange/brown iron-oxides. Great price for a well preserved and complete carapace of this rarely seen crab from New Zealand.
