New Zealand Snider Sawback bayonet 2nd type "N2". Will NOT ALLOW me to use the word "BAYONET" in my listing's title WTF?? So please EXCUSE my over-use of that potential "search word" here.. BAYONET 19th Century Maori Wars era.

This rather LONG Saw Back bayonet was made for a rather SMALL Mounted Artillery Carbine during the later years of the New Zealand Maori Land Wars. This pattern While SIMILAR to others?

Such as the Irish Constabulary Carbine? It certainly is UNIQUE to NEW ZEALAND service-use. It was the second pattern, ordered to be LONGER than the 1st Pattern that was made with a 17 1\4 blade that was considered too-short and disadvantaged an unmounted soldier with a carbine.

So this longer replacement was issued but only. An EXTREMELY SCARCE 19th century bayonet ONE of ONLY 2100 ever produced.

If you SEARCH in "Google for New Zealand Snider Sawback Bayonet 2nd Type N2"? You will find an inferior example to mine for sale out of the UK for. SIZE = 514 mm blade length = the longer 20.25 inch. These were converted from the earlier 1875 sawback in 1880/81 converted at great cost! DIFFERING from previous pattern in that the Leaf Spring and Press Stud Release are on the opposite side.

The scabbard is MUCH RARER than the bayonet itself, as few survive, having been in New Zealand's Sub-Tropical environment. Age # 359 British Commonwealth Bayonet book by Skenertton & Richardson. If you DO NOT OWN this reference? Please VIEW the last three images.
