Vintage Maori Tiki Handcarved Wooden Patu War Club New Zealand Tribal Paua Shell
SUPERB VINTAGE HAND CARVED MAORI PATU. Presenting an exquisite vintage Maori Patu which has been expertly hand carved from one solid piece of beautifully grained native timber. This superb club is beautifully decorated with a stylishly curved Tiki flanking the inner curve of the Patu rendering it visible from both faces. The Tiki's smooth body forms a loop while its face and limbs are decorated with traditional Maori patterns. An additional Tiki head forms the stub of the club.
Both Tikis are beautifully carved with fine detailing and finished with inlaid paua shell eyes. This piece has a traditional shaped form with a recessed curve to the back of the club. SIZE: This impressive Patu measures approx 350mms in length and 140mms in width.WEIGHT: This piece weighs 305 grams. CONDITION: This piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs. There is the odd light scuff to the varnished surface noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy.
The inlaid paua shells remain stable and free of cracks. This fine example has developed a lovely mellow patina. This piece has been very well cared for and presents magnificently. A fine addition to any Maori, Pacific Islands, Oceanic or Tribal art collection! A perfect gift idea for any person who appreciates Maori culture.
