WW1 ANZAC New Zealand Officers Tropical Tunic. I bought this tunic in a militaria store in Auckland back in 2003, it came with the 1911 pattern NZ militia buttons and pips with the three ribbon bars loose in the pocket. The collar had 2 sets of holes for badge lugs because it would have had an early pattern militia pair of collar devices then transitioned to a later pattern so i bought the early pattern onward collar badges on it now. It once had brass epaulette titles but they were removed and have been stitched over possibly as it was used again in the interwar period or early WW2. It is a tailor made version of the early patterns of tropical officers tunics, being higher waisted and not having the belt and bellows pattern pockets of the ww2 types.
It also has an unusual fob pocket watch pocket on the waist which might suggest the owner was cavalry or artillery. The WW1 officers pips were also on the jacket. There are no dates or makers marks, the only clue to it's owner are the initials in the collar.I mounted the ribbons on a piece of card and stitched them back on using period thread as when i bought this there were stitch holes for the ribbons. This is the type typically seen in late WW1 in Palestine and other tropical theatres as per the period photo in the listing.
